Heroes Among Us
Many of us know what it’s like to put in long hours at work. But what we may not realize is that some of our colleagues are working 15+ hours a day risking their own safety to help those in need of support and resources.
Stephanie Garcia, an Applied Materials project manager in Austin, is among the members of the Texas National Guard who were called up for duty to help those impacted by Hurricane Harvey. As part of the relief effort, Stephanie, a helicopter pilot in the Guard, is serving as the logistics officer in charge of all incoming and outgoing cargo – including food, water, aircraft and ground vehicle parts – through the Austin Army Aviation Support Facility.
Stephanie’s contribution is part of the larger effort by thousands of other Guard men and women who have swum through flooded streets to rescue people and animals, transported patients to medical facilities and landed aircraft in flooded fields to deliver much-needed supplies.
Stephanie’s story is just one of the many examples of heroes among the Applied family who take action when tragedy strikes. As a company with a large presence in Texas, the flooding has personally impacted many of our workers and their loved ones.
We are grateful to everyone at Applied who donates time, money and goods to those affected by recent hurricanes and other disasters. We are especially thankful to Stephanie and all the other members of the military whose heroism provides hope and support to families in need.
